The concept is simple – experts from the Financial Planning Association® and highly qualified CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals will volunteer to meet one-on-one with local residents to offer personalized financial planning information and to present classroom style educational workshops addressing key financial planning topics. The benefits are plentiful – increasing the recognition and the value of financial planning in the local community and providing the public with the financial information they need at a time when many residents are in urgent need of financial planning assistance due to the recent economic turmoil.

Oakland Financial Planning Day is organized in partnership with City of Oakland, Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Financial Planning Association, Foundation for Financial Planning, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The event is part of the national Financial Planning Days initiative, a ground-breaking program involving city governments and thousands of financial planners nationwide, in an effort to provide free financial education and programming to people across the country.

Oakland Financial Planning Day is a free event for the public where attendees have an opportunity to address specific financial questions to professional financial planners who are volunteering their time and expertise.

At the event, each volunteer is seated at a table, allowing individuals, couples and families to sit down and address their personal finance questions, concerns and curiosities. Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist many attendees throughout the event, but will speak to only one individual or family at a time. In addition to one-on-one counseling, attendees are also able to attend Educational Workshops on diverse and popular financial topics presented by financial planners.

Oakland Financial Planning Day is a pro bono benefit to the public, and there is no selling, product marketing or soliciting allowed. In other words, there are no strings attached for the consumer. Volunteers are not permitted to distribute business cards or any other marketing materials at the event. Attendees who choose to follow up with financial planners they meet at the event can do so through the volunteer contact information directory provided in the event handout.

Volunteers will receive a morning briefing before the event opens to the public to provide them with an overview of the event layout and rules, and an opportunity to ask questions.

Registration for financial planners to volunteer at this event is now closed. We want to thank all financial planners who have generously donated their time and expertise to make this event a success.

Participation is open only to financial planners who either hold the CFP® certification and/or are members of the Financial Planning Association®. Volunteers must be in good standing with CFP Board and/or FPA.

Oakland Financial Planning Day will be held at the Oakland City Hall.
