Twin Cities Financial Planning Day

City of Minneapolis and the Financial Planning Association of Minnesota hosted Twin Cities Financial Planning Day on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Hennepin County Library – Minneapolis Central, where attendees were able to meet one-on-one with dozens of professional financial planners to discuss personal finance questions, concerns and interests.

The event was organized as part of the national Financial Planning Days initiative, designed to provide free financial planning education and programming to people across the country.  Financial Planning Days was created by four national non-profit organizations – Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Financial Planning Association, Foundation for Financial Planning, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Twin Cities Financial Planning Day is a free event for the public where attendees have an opportunity to address specific financial questions to professional financial planners who are volunteering their time and expertise.

At the event, each volunteer is seated at a table, allowing individuals, couples and families to sit down and address their personal finance questions, concerns and curiosities. Volunteers have the opportunity to assist many attendees throughout the event, but can speak to only one individual or family at a time. In addition to one-on-one counseling, attendees are also able to attend Educational Workshops on diverse and popular financial topics presented by financial planners.

Twin Cities Financial Planning Day is a pro bono benefit to the public, and there is no selling, product marketing or soliciting allowed. In other words, there are no strings attached for the consumer. Volunteers are not permitted to distribute business cards or any other marketing materials at the event. Attendees who choose to follow up with financial planners they meet at the event can do so through the volunteer contact information directory provided in the event handout.

Volunteers will received a morning briefing before the event openeds to the public to that provided them with an overview of the event layout and rules, and an opportunity to ask questions.
